The toxic culture of ‘glow up’
I am 100 percent certain if I take anyone’s phone, and browse through any social media plateform wether it is instagram, TikTok or YouTube, I am sure that I will find videos popping up on “how to glow up”.
In fact, this theme is present in both gender’s formats, wether it is that finance bro with a red pill alpha podcast telling you to wake up at 4am to take cold showers and work on your drop shipping business or that overly aesthetic girlie that suggests you to make 3 different iced coffee mixes at 6am, ice your face, start journaling, use a 100 step skincare routine etc…
A concept such as glow up, has become so marketed towards young audiences, making you believe that you have to buy in order to have a transformation.
While some stuff may be useful, like a solid skincare routine with no more than 3 steps at most 5, or a nice journal, or a cute coffee mug that makes you excited for the next day, the majority of the other things are just add ons to feed into our consumer habits.
Influencers make you think that they are absolutely “obsessed” with something and that you have to RUN not walk to buy it, and you can’t help yourself but sometimes give in. I dont blame you, I also get pulled in some rabbit holes such as this, like the hype for matcha lattes at 5am.
Though awareness is very much needed ; it’s a first step.
I personally think that glow up is more of a mindset change, such as building new healthy habits like drinking one cup of water each meal, or indulging in positive activities, maybe meditation or yoga.
Glowing up is cleansing your soul and your mind. Without a proper mindset anything you buy is useless.
Glowing up is all about your willpower to change your present self and what you aspire to be.
It’s all about peace of mind. Everything comes later naturally, that glow you are longing for is going to come by and eventually grace your existence.
Don’t waste anymore time on videos about glow up, it’s the same scenario every time. There isn’t one prescribed way to glow up, you can build it yourself, make it suitable for your life, your pattern, your needs.
This modern day culture of glow up is toxic; therefore, break the cycle.
